Driving test stories - Update 2

As part of our regular blogs detailing some of our clients who have unfortunately not been successful, we explain what went wrong in these tests, to share with you in order for our followers to have more of an idea towards the errors which can lead to driving test failure.

Case study 1-

During minute 26 of the driving test, the candidate was instructed to follow the road ahead at the approaching roundabout. This particular roundabout had 3 lanes, the left lane contained an arrow showing that only traffic turning left should use this lane, the middle/right lane showed arrows indicating that these lanes should be used for following the road. The candidate incorrectly selected the left lane on the approach to the roundabout, and tried to follow the road ahead resulting in a following motorist beeping as the candidate crossed their path.

Remedy -

Selecting the wrong lane is not worthy of a fail in itself, however not realising it is the wrong is a dangerous fault. If you realise you are in the wrong lane, continue in the lane and follow the traffic signs for that lane, then look for a suitable place to perform a u-turn further down where you are, (use the next roundabout for a legal u-turn). If you go down the wrong route in the exam, inform the examiner so that they know you are aware of your mistake and they will guide you towards another roundabout to make a u-turn, if this unfortunate candidate had taken the left as the lane showed, and turned around at another roundabout, they would have been successful!
